Volleyholics Presents Wallyball - Volleyball With Walls DISCOVER WALLYBALL ↓

THE GAME

WHAT IS WALLYBALL?

Wallyball takes volleyball inside an enclosed racquetball-style court — and brings the walls into play. The compact court, quick reactions, and unexpected angles create a fast, exciting version of the game we love.

01

WALLS IN PLAY

The walls become part of the action, opening up creative plays, rebounds, and angles you don't normally see on a traditional volleyball court.

02

FAST-PACED

With less space between players, the ball comes back quickly. Expect fast rallies, quick reactions, and very little downtime.

03

UNIQUE ANGLES

The enclosed court changes how you attack and defend. Shots can develop from angles that simply don't exist in traditional volleyball.

04

VOLLEYBALL SKILLS

Passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and communication are still at the heart of the game — just with a Wallyball twist.

WALLYBALL RULES

Basic rules used for Volleyholics Wallyball. Tournament-specific formats or modifications will be communicated before each event.

GAME FORMAT

  1. Service area is three feet from each end of the court.
  2. The match is won when one team wins the best of three games. A game is won when one team first scores 25 points in the first two games or 15 points in the tie-breaker game.
  3. Each team can only call one timeout per game.
  4. Four players will play per side.
  5. In co-rec competition, two players shall be male and two players shall be female. A team may play with more females than males (3-1), but may never play with more than two male players at a time. Different formats may apply depending on tournament organization.
  6. A coin toss will determine first service or choice of court side. Second-game service goes to the other team. A third game, if necessary, requires another coin toss.

WALLS & BOUNDARIES

  1. The ball is out of bounds when, while crossing the net, it hits the ceiling, the back wall of the opponent's side, or two walls consecutively on a service, volley, or block.
  2. The ceiling and back wall on your own side are in bounds if your own player touches the ball first.
  3. The server may not spike or block the ball during the volley in which he or she served.
  4. If the server catches the ball on the service toss, the server can replay the serve.
  5. The service must be clean contact with the ball. Pushing the ball or rolling the ball off the fingers ("paint brush") is not allowed.
  6. Service order must be kept prior to serving.

NET PLAY & ATTACKING

  1. If the ball is only partly across the net and the opponent hits it, it is good.
  2. Touching the net is not allowed unless the ball is driven into the net and the net hits the player.
  3. On an attack, the player must contact the ball before the ball has completely crossed over the net.
  4. Blockers can reach over the net to block, provided the other team has made its third contact with the ball.
  5. The opponent cannot block the set. If any part of the ball has crossed the vertical plane, a free ball is in effect and both teams are entitled to it.
  6. If two opposing players touch the net simultaneously, the point is replayed.
  7. A ball crossing below the net across the vertical plane can be played back by your side if the team has not used all three hits.
  8. A ball on the vertical plane above the net is open to both sides.
  9. A ball passing through the side openings of the net on the first or second contact is replayed.

BALL CONTACT & WALL PLAY

  1. A double hit is only allowed on a block or on the return of a hard-driven hit.
  2. If a ball is touched on a block, the team still has three hits, and the blocker can make any of these hits.
  3. Contacting two or more walls is allowed only by the team in possession of the ball on its own side, provided a player on that team touches the ball first. The ball must also be touched by another player before going over on a multiple-wall hit.
  4. Holding, pushing, scooping, lifting, or carrying the ball is not allowed. It must be a clean hit.
  5. Holding the ball at the top of the net by both sides results in a replay.
  6. If two players on the same team hit the ball simultaneously, it counts as one hit and either player can play the next hit.
  7. No climbing or using the walls, or players assisting each other, to gain height at the net.
  8. A ball can hit the back wall and go over the net directly when being played by your side. If two walls are touched, another player must touch it before it goes over the net.
  9. If a ball spins across to the opponent's side and back to yours on the first or second hit, you can play your second or third hit. If it spins back on the third hit, a loss of point or side out occurs.
  10. An open-hand dink is illegal. It must be a paint-brush hit, clean hit, closed fist, knuckle, cobra shot, or soft spike.
  11. The ball cannot contact below the waist.
  12. On a block, if two opposing players touch the ball, the team still has three hits.

SUBSTITUTIONS & CO-REC

  1. Unlimited substitutions are allowed as long as players are rotated into the serving position.
  2. Blocking, spiking, or attacking a serve is illegal.
  3. For co-rec play, anytime the ball is played three times, a female player must make at least one of those contacts, if format is two female, two male.
